Dr. Gloria Kuhn was one of the great EM educators. She is amongst the first of the emergency medicine residency-trained physicians and was in the second residency class of the Detroit Receiving EM Residency Program, entering in 1977. She founded the residency program at Mt. Carmel Hospital, now Sinai-Grace Hospital, in northwest Detroit in 1982 and served as its Program Director for 13 years mentoring hundreds of EM residents and future leaders within the specialty. Throughout her career, she was involved in many state and national Emergency Medicine organizations and received many accolades and awards for her passion and dedication as an educator. She was a force for recognition and growth for women emergency physicians and was singularly impactful on the careers of so many women leaders in EM.
Dr. Kuhn was indeed one of the giants of the specialty and will be greatly missed. Her spirit will live on through the many lives she has touched.
